What I Learned Leading Marketing Before Building a Content Production Studio
After more than 20 years leading marketing teams across healthcare, media, insurance, eCommerce, and food, one thing became clear, creating content was often harder than it needed to be.
No matter the company, industry, or budget, the challenge was surprisingly consistent.
As marketers, we needed content to build awareness, launch products, grow subscriptions, acquire customers, support sales teams, fuel social channels, tell founder stories, and build trust with audiences. Yet producing that content often felt like managing a project with dozens of moving parts.
First, we needed a location, then a photographer, videographer, equipment, props, post-production editing, file management, approvals and then distribution. The challenge wasn't a lack of talented people. The challenge was that content production was often fragmented across too many vendors, schedules, and workflows. And now with the availability of AI, adding yet another layer of choices and decision making.
As marketing leaders, we aren't measured on how beautiful a shoot looks behind the scenes. We are measured on results, brand awareness, social engagement, revenue growth, customer acquisition, subscription growth and/or customer retention.
And while content plays a critical role in achieving those goals, getting the content produced often required significant time, coordination, and resources. Over the years, I found myself asking the same question, “Why is this harder than it should be?”
The answer wasn't that brands needed more content. They needed a simpler way to create it. That realization became the foundation for AFTR.
AFTR wasn't built because the world needed another studio space. It was built because brands, agencies, founders, and creators deserve a more streamlined production experience to tell their stories and bring their creative vision to life.
A place where location, photography, videography, creative support, customizable backdrops, and post-production can work together instead of requiring multiple vendors, workflows, increased budgets and countless emails and phone calls to coordinate.
Most content studios are built by production professionals. AFTR was built from the perspective of a marketing leader. That difference matters because before building AFTR, I spent years sitting on the brand (client) side of the table.
I know what it's like to need content for a product launch that's already behind schedule. I know what it's like to stretch a budget while still trying to deliver high-quality creative. I know what it's like to need content that doesn't just look good, but actually drives business results. I've been responsible for marketing budgets, brand strategy, customer acquisition, customer retention, product GTM and subscription growth. I've been responsible for company KPIs and revenue targets.
And those experiences shaped how AFTR was designed. When clients work with AFTR, they're not simply booking a location. They're partnering with a team that understands the role content plays in the broader marketing ecosystem and the business objectives it needs to support. Because great content isn't the goal. Content that builds trust, drives action, and supports growth is.
That's the perspective I brought to every marketing leadership role throughout my career.
And it's the same perspective that inspired AFTR. At its core, AFTR exists to make content production simpler, more efficient, and more effective, so brands can spend less time managing logistics and more time telling stories that matter. And, an added bonus, we love to have fun doing it with you!
And because great stories should stand out, we created a modern take on the word “after.”
Less chaos, more content. "Get AFTR it."
Warmly,
Julie Kawejsza, Founder & Producer, AFTR
